COGNIFOG Showcased at Smart City Expo World Congress 2025 in Barcelona
The COGNIFOG Project was showcased at the Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC) 2025, held from 4–6 November in Barcelona. Hosted at Hall 2, Stand B91, the Urban Technology Alliance (UTA) presented COGNIFOG alongside a diverse portfolio of initiatives driving the future of urban innovation.
With more than 27,000 participants from 800 cities and 143 countries, SCEWC once again confirmed its role as the leading global event for smart and sustainable city solutions. This year’s theme, “The Time for Cities,” underscored the urgency of deploying scalable, resilient and human-centred technologies capable of addressing climate, social and urban transformation challenges.
COGNIFOG in the Spotlight
Throughout the congress, UTA partners engaged with city representatives, technology providers and research organisations to discuss how COGNIFOG’s cloud–edge–IoT orchestration capabilities can enhance urban services, resilience and data-driven decision making. The stand attracted continuous interest from visitors exploring next-generation solutions for smart mobility, environmental monitoring, emergency response and urban digital infrastructure.
COGNIFOG was also highlighted as one of UTA’s ongoing Horizon Europe projects, demonstrating its relevance and contribution to Europe’s edge-cloud continuum and smart city innovation landscape.
Impact Tech Stage Breakout Session
A key moment of the week was UTA’s breakout session on the Impact Tech Stage, held on 4 November (17:05–17:50). The session brought forward real case studies from Grenoble, Jena and Japan, emphasising that:
Urban resilience must be systemic rather than reactive
Data must be used responsibly, inclusively and transparently
Technology is impactful only when it improves people’s everyday lives
These messages strongly resonated with COGNIFOG’s mission to provide trustworthy, adaptive and secure digital solutions for cities.
Strengthening Global Collaboration
UTA appeared at SCEWC with an exceptional group of partners — including Kentyou, Latitudo 40, RealSim, Data In Motion Consulting, Nagoya University, Shonan Future Verse and others — showcasing how collaborative ecosystems can accelerate the transition to sustainable, climate-adaptive and digitally empowered urban environments.
For COGNIFOG, participation in SCEWC 2025 strengthened connections with cities, industry leaders and innovators worldwide. It marked an important step in expanding awareness of the project’s results and fostering international cooperation around the future of cognitive, distributed and resilient computing for smart cities.
